Sox start rebuilding for 2009 season

Nick Swisher, 27, was traded on Thursday to the New York Yankees in exchange for utility infielder Wilson Betemit and Minor League pitchers Jeff Marquez and Jhonny Nunez. The Yankees also received Minor League reliever Kanekoa Texeira from the White Sox.

Betemit, 27, looks capable of filling the utility infielder responsibilities performed by Juan Uribe and Pablo Ozuna for much of last season.

Jeff Marquez, the 24-year-old will battle with Clayton Richard during Spring Training for the fifth starter in the rotation as a more immediate source of help.

Jhonny Nunez, Williams believes he has a talented young hurler who sits not too far away from the Majors either as a starter or as a reliever.

Then on October 30th the White Sox acquired Jayson Nix.

The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms a one-year contract with free-agent infielder Jayson Nix. Jason will be fighting for the second base job when spring training opens.

Exciting times on the south side. I have a feeling we will have one more big name player from the Sox involved in a big time trade.
