Shift - What It Takes To Finally Reach Families Today

I finished Brian Hanes most recent book, Shift a couple of weeks ago. Brian Haynes is the associate pastor overseeing spiritual formation at Kingsland Baptist Church in katy Texas. Whether you're just getting started ministering to families or you've got a full-blown family ministry, Shift will help equip parents to become spiritual leaders in their homes.

Here are some of the highlights from my reading:
  • Parents are the primary faith influencers in their children's lives by design.
  • To equip the generations effectively, we must reach and equip parents.
  • Most parents' actions reveal their belief that the spiritual growth of their children is primarily the responsibility of trained specialists.
  • The church was never intended to be a substitute for the home.
  • Helping children grow in their relationship with God is a biblical partnership that involves the family and the church.
  • Make it your priority to become the primary faith influencer of the children living in your home.
  • Providing parents with good tools for the task of influencing their children spiritually is a key strategic component of our equipping strategy.
  • Most parents don't even begin to know where to look for the proper tools and resources for the path.
  • Family is the relationship context in which we offer the most authentic view of our faith, whether positively or negatively.
  • We must be more passionate about the spiritual formation of our own children than we are about the spiritual formation of those who attend our churches.

Simple principles in this book, but a family ministry approach that's attainable and sustainable. I’m leaving a lot of great quotes out this post so I would encourage you to pick up this book.
